Appointment of Justin Travlos as UK Head of Asset Management
AXA Investment Managers - Real Assets appoints Justin Travlos as UK Head of Asset Management
AXA Investment Managers - Real Assets (“AXA IM - Real Assets”), a global leader in real asset investments and the leading(1) real estate portfolio and asset manager in Europe, announces the appointment of Justin Travlos to the role of UK Head of Asset Management, effective 18th June. In addition, after almost thirty years with the firm, Dorrien Thomas has announced that he will retire at the end of 2018. After what will be an extended handover period, Justin will assume responsibility for the UK business as UK Country Team Head effective 1st January 2019. Justin will report to Nathalie Charles, Head of Development & European Country Teams.
Justin joins from Stockland, one of Australia’s largest diversified listed property companies, where he was Regional Development Manager (New South Wales, Commercial Property). In his role at Stockland, Justin led a team of development managers and property professionals, running a development pipeline of over A$1.3 billion, with responsibility for underwriting, acquisition, design, planning, construction and leasing. He led a number of the firm’s largest development projects, including most recently the A$230 million reconfiguration and redevelopment of the Stockland Wetherill Park shopping mall in Sydney. Between 2007 and 2009, in addition to his roles in development, Justin was appointed National Sustainability Manager (Commercial). During this time Justin contributed to the development of Stockland’s sustainability strategy, leading to a sector leader status on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and inclusion of Stockland on the “Davos 100” most sustainable organisations between 2009 and 2016.
Dorrien joined AXA IM - Real Assets in October 1989, first as an investment surveyor and then as a fund manager for various UK-focused vehicles. He was promoted through various roles in the firm, taking responsibility for the asset management function in the UK in 2007, with his remit subsequently extended to include the Nordics from 2012. Dorrien has been instrumental in building up a strong asset management function in the UK and in the Nordics, and has played a leading role in a number of the firm’s largest, most successful transactions.
Andrew Stainer, Global Head of Asset Management and Development at AXA IM - Real Assets, commented: “The UK is one of our largest and most important markets. It accounts for around 9% of our assets under management and is home to some of our most significant and high profile investments. We are delighted to welcome someone of Justin’s calibre and international experience to the firm.”
“I am joined by all of my colleagues on the Management Board in congratulating Dorrien for his remarkable contribution to the firm over the past almost thirty years. His impact has been felt not just in terms of commercial success, but also through his contribution to the development of our strong culture and the training he has provided to so many young professionals over the years. His has truly been a career to be proud of.”
