AXA Investment Managers - Real Assets appoints Andrew Piekarski as U.S. Director of Acquisitions

AXA Investment Managers - Real Assets (“AXA IM - Real Assets”), a global leader in real assets investment and the leading(1) real estate portfolio and asset manager in Europe, announces the appointment of Andrew Piekarski as U.S. Director of Acquisitions, effective immediately. 

Andrew joins with over 25 years of commercial real estate experience, most recently at WAFRA, INC., a New York-based investment advisory firm, where he spent the past two years in the role of acquisitions director for the Southeastern region responsible for sourcing, evaluating, underwriting and acquiring properties on behalf of clients. Prior to that, Andrew spent 14 years at BlackRock Asset Management where he most recently held the position of Managing Director, Eastern Region Investment Management, overseeing a range of transaction and asset management functions for a c. $5 billion multi-sector portfolio. Over the course of his career, Andrew has also held various senior roles at TGM Associates, Sentinel Real Estate Corporation and Lehman Brothers. 

In his new role, Andrew will be responsible for sourcing, underwriting and executing acquisitions in accordance with individual client and fund objectives, which include both direct and joint venture investments, often with local operating partners. Reporting directly to Steve McCarthy, Head of North America, Andrew will manage a team of five with the objective of accelerating the growth of AXA IM - Real Assets’ assets under management across U.S. gateway cities. 

AXA IM - Real Assets entered the U.S. market in 2010 and has since grown into a highly active investment management platform with over €2 billion(2) of equity and approximately £1 billion of debt(3) assets under management. The growing New York-based team continues to identify and invest in a range of core and value-add opportunities across the top 13 U.S. real estate markets, while also undertaking an increasing amount of lending in the real estate debt space. Recent acquisitions, on behalf of clients, include: 180 Grand Avenue, a 279,000 sq ft office asset located in Downtown Oakland, California; two logistics properties in Phoenix, Arizona and West Sacramento, California, and; University Center Chicago, a 1,732-bed student housing property located in downtown Chicago, Illinois.
