Supporting sustainability

We are one of the few asset managers in the industry to offer a comprehensive forestry strategy. We aim to provide environmentally conscious investments that help promote sustainability in the wood and timber sector.

Our forestry strategy

Institutional investors are increasingly demanding natural capital assets in our portfolio offer. We have responded by integrating sustainable forestry into our strategy, which incorporates long-term timber price growth1.

Sector specialists

Our teams comprise specialists with in-depth, local knowledge of the sector. Focusing on wood quality and the infrastructure to facilitate harvesting, they source sustainable opportunities in forest estates.

Resilient assets

The asset class is largely immune to economic cycles. Additionally, the geographic diversity of our forestry assets helps to protect investments against possible effects of climate change.

Long-term vision

Forestry offers the twin benefits of a sustainable return on investment and carbon offsetting potential for clients. The long-term projected imbalance between supply and demand for timber also creates price growth.

The Green Triangle

Drawing on our local knowledge and forestry management expertise, we recently expanded our portfolio with the acquisition of Green Triangle Forest Products estate, 24,000 hectares of sustainable woodland in Australia1.

Prime location

With reliable rainfall, easy terrain, favourable soil characteristics and high-quality timber, our freehold land acquisition is in a strategic area that’s home to several leading domestic processing customers.

ESG credentials

Green Triangle has a carbon stock of 8 million tonnes of CO2. Through sustainable estate management and the expansion of biodiversity, we expect net carbon sequestration of 3.9 million tCO2 over 25 years1.

Watch our video introducing the AXA Forests for Good programme, which aims to help restore damaged forest ecosystems and make them more resilient to climate change.

AXA Forests for Good

AXA are joining hands with scientists, NGOs and forestry experts in a three-year project which will be deployed on 600 of the 15,000 hectares of forest owned by AXA in France and managed by AXA IM.

Collaboration

To carry out this project, AXA will be surrounded by a consortium of actors, led by Reforest'Action, and composed of FNE, Inrae, Jura Nature Environnement, AgroParisTech and SAPN. They will combine their environmental, social, technical and educational expertise.

Restoration

After testing several restoration options, the consortium will make recommendations for species that promote the multifunctionality of the forest, i.e., the development of biodiversity, carbon capture and the production of biomaterials.

Education

Externally, the consortium's members will raise awareness of biodiversity issues in schools thanks to these forests. Internally, AXA will propose actions through AXA Hearts in Action and awareness-raising operations to its partners and employees.

Sustainability

ESG in our DNA

In Australia, we are driving sustainability while expanding our presence across major asset classes.

    ESG Disclaimer

The ESG data used in the investment process are based on ESG methodologies which rely in part on third party data, and in some cases are internally developed. They are subjective and may change over time. Despite several initiatives, the lack of harmonised definitions can make ESG criteria heterogeneous. As such, the different investment strategies that use ESG criteria and ESG reporting are difficult to compare with each other. Strategies that incorporate ESG criteria and those that incorporate sustainable development criteria may use ESG data that appear similar but which should be distinguished because their calculation method may be different.
